RSS feeds, Twitter and Co. are technically great things and many Internet users remain so up to date.
But not all Internet users are focusing on new technologies. emails are still the most frequently used means of communication.
Therefore it makes sense to offer his recent blog item by eMail SUBSCRIPTION.
Why Mail current article?
Very few readers have the time and inclination to call the blog every day and to see if there is something new. Here various options come into play. One of them is the automatic sending of emails.
Of course you will not ship the complete article via email. The aim is to inform interested subscribers that new products have appeared on the blog.
I’ve been using for the info on new products but a function of Feedburner. I have thus jetpack meanwhile approximately 700 email subscribers that are automatically kept informed about new products. That’s compared with about 5,000 RSS subscribers although not much, but it would cost an automatic email alert and nothing is done without my help.
When FeedBurner service, which now belongs Google, it is not a newsletter in the classical sense. The solution presented here is fully automatic, so that you do not have to worry about.
And of course you should be honest with its readers and needs, they expect only a list of the latest articles (short excerpt), and not advertising etc ..
A proper newsletter, such as my traffic Tips Newsletter, you can and should additionally build.
I used to jetpack.me used a plugin for this purpose. However, this has a few drawbacks.
For a time there were hardly any plugins that support a Double Opt-In. And that is legally imperative even at such an info mail.
Secondly, the time used by my plugin was not developed any further and failed at some point his service.
Therefore I would not recommend to implement the sending directly in own blog itself.
Instead, I use now FeedBurner to send out the “New Products” mails.
If you have already deposited with its Feed FeedBurner anyway, so it’s just a matter of a few clicks.
Under the tab “Publicize” you will find the menu item “Email Subscriptions”. This service you have to activate first.
After that, you set the language and then have the choice between 2 possibilities.Firstly, you can install a registration form directly in one’s own blog. The code for this will be provided.
Secondly, you can use only a link also easy, which leads then to a Feedburner page with the registration.
Furthermore, you should also change the text via email under the sub-item “Communication Preferences”. This is in English. The activation mail will be sent to the registered email address as part of the Double-Opt-In. Do not forget you should own imprint in the activation email.
Only when the user clicks the confirmation link, the subscription is active. In order for this service should be easily usable even under German law.
In “Communication Preferences” menu you can customize the layout of automatic mail. Font and color, own logo and take care of a reasonably adapted optics.
Under “Delivery Options” to provide a finally, when the mail is sent. It is incidentally a day just a mail ship, no matter how many articles you have published.
The service provided by Feedburner works very well and is the best that it’s free.
And so really, there is nothing to use this service and at least a part of the reader in order to offer another way to keep up to date on the blog content by email.
